A pleasant and benevolent degrowth and downshift ?

When I read about a new world without oil, I find  more and more  often articles describing it as a pleasant degrowth, a benevolent downshift, a prosperous future, and better times.

… But will it be really like that?

Once the oil is over, once the medicines are over, with no more fresh food, no more herbicides and pesticides (pollutants, of course, but always useful to have  rich and successful harvests), are we  sure that we can still speak of prosperity ? ..of better times? ..of a prosperous future??
